Top 5 Players Delhi Capitals can target in the Mega auctions

Delhi Capitals are one of those teams who are yet to get their hands on the IPL trophy. Since their rebranding in 2018, the franchise has improved a lot not only in terms of performance but has also grown financially.

Delhi have retained skipper Rishabh Pant, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw and Axar Patel

The new owners would try anything and everything to bring an IPL trophy in their cabinet.

Here is a list of five players Delhi Capitals might target in the mega auctions

1) Kagiso Rabada

The Proteas speedster was picked over Anrich Nortje ahead of the mega auctions. Though he looked a little off in last season, DC might be thinking to get back the 26-year-old in their squad. But that be a hard battle for DC keeping in mind the demand of Rabada in the league. Rabada was the highest wicket taker in the league in 2020. He picked up 25 wickets in the previous season as well.

There’s no team in the IPL that would not like to get their hands on the 26-year-old speedster. Therefore, Delhi might have to break the bank to secure his services.

2) Shreyas Iyer

The former Delhi Capitals who was one of the integral players in the team was released ahead of the mega auctions. Iyer has played a huge role in Delhi Capitals success after taking over the captaincy duties from Gautam Gambhir in 2018.

In the following season, DC reached to the playoffs after seven years. In 2020, Iyer led DC reached to the finals of the tournament but lost against MI.

The 27-year-old was ruled out of the first leg of the IPL in 2021. Rishabh Pant was handed over the duties. But the wicketkeeper batsmen remained as the skipper even after Iyer returned to the squad.

Shreyas Iyer is the third highest run getter in Delhi Capitals after Virender Sehwag and Rishabh Pant. In 87 games Iyer has scored 2375 runs at an average of 31.67.

3) Marcus Stoinis

Another former Delhi player to make it to the list is the Australian all rounder Marcus Stoinis. Stoinis was instrumental in Australia’s 2021 ICC T20 World Cup win. The 32-year-old looked in fine form during the recently concluded marquee event.

In the previous season of the IPL, Stoinis only managed to score 89 runs in 10 games for Delhi. He picked up two wickets.

Though his IPL stats don’t look impressive but the 32-year-old might be a valuable addition to the squad.

4) Shikhar Dhawan

Team India’s opener Shikhar Dhawan is one of the most experienced players in the league. Delhi let go the 36-year-old but might reconsider him keeping in mind the performance he has had with the team over the past years.

Since arriving at Delhi in 2019 from SRH, Dhawan has given consistent performances for the team. He is also one of the very few batsmen to score 5000+ runs in the cash rich league.

5) Quinton De Kock

Delhi might be looking for a left-handed batsman who could pair-up with Prithvi Shaw. The Proteas wicket keeper batsmen has been released by Mumbai Indians ahead of the mega auctions. De Kock can also go behind the stumps if Pant gets injured or needs rest.

The 29 year old has been a part of the Delhi based franchise in 2014-15.
