TATA IPL Mega Auctions: Date, Venue, Teams and all you need to know

The BCCI has finally cleared the air about the dates for the IPL 2022 mega auctions.

Who are the owners of the two new franchises?

The 15th edition of IPL is going to be a 10 team affair with the addition of two new franchises-Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Sanjiv Goenka who was previously the owner of Rising Pune Supergiants has won the rights for Lucknow franchise for INR 7090 crores while CVC Capital Partners have won the rights for Ahmedabad franchise for INR 5625 crores.

When and where the mega auctions will take place?

IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel on Tuesday has confirmed that the mega auctions will be a two day affair and will be held on February 12th and 13th.

“Yes, the auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13”, the IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel said.

Although Brijesh Patel did not mention about the venue but in all probabiliy the highly anticipated event will be held in the Garden City in Bengaluru.

By when the new franchises will draft the players?

Earlier this week the BCCI has given a formal clearance to both the franchises and have given them two weeks to finalise their drafts.

“BCCI has given formal clearance to Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises of IPL. Both teams have been given two weeks to finalise their draft picks. IPL auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and February 13,” IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel told news agency ANI on Tuesday (January 11).

The Board has asked all the franchises to arrive in the venue by February 11 evening for pre-auction briefing.

Who will be the title sponsors for the upcoming season?

Earlier on Tuesday, the IPL chairman revealed their new title sponsors ‘TATA’ for the upcoming two seasons. Chinese manufacturing company VIVO wanted to pull themselves out of the league.

This could well be the last mega auctions held as most of the eight original franchises wants it to be discontinued as it affects the balance of the team.

Where the matches will take place?

The Board has not taken any final decision on this topic. The Board is discussing a ‘Plan B’ if the situation of the Covid-19 worsens in the country. According to sources, the Board is planning to conduct all the games in Mumbai across three venues. However, the Board is surely not considering the option of travelling to the Gulf Nations. The BCCI will reassess the situation on March and will be in constant touch with all the stakeholders.
