Punjab Kings in IPL 2022: Retentions, Players Released, Squad, Probable Playing XI and What to Expect

Punjab Kings might have lost their best player in KL Rahul ahead of IPL 2022 but their smart retention strategy has made sure that they have the highest remaining purse for the mega auction among all the 8 core franchises (72 crores) which will give them an instant advantage.

They have retained the least number of players (8) among all the other teams and will thus have to build their entire squad from scratch. Captain selection is also an important aspect that Punjab Kings management will have to think about as Mayank Agarwal does not have much experience as a skipper. PBKS thus have a lot to do in the upcoming Mega-auction.

What to expect from PBKS in IPL 2022

Punjab Kings are one of the 3 core IPL franchises who are yet to lift the IPL trophy once. Like RCB, they have mostly had a great squad that underperforms every year and things were no different in IPL 2021.

Apart from KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal who scored majority of their runs, most of the PBKS stars failed to impress and thus they finished on 6th position of the points table. Having lost their main player KL Rahul, Punjab Kings have the biggest vacuum to fill in among all the other 8 core IPL franchises and fortunately enough they have the funds to find a suitable replacement in the mega auction.

Punjab Kings’ fate in the upcoming years of the Indian Premier League thus completely depends on their team selection.
