IPL 2022: Top 5 players RCB can target in the Mega auctions

Surprisingly the Bangalore based franchise has retained only three players though the Board has allowed a maximum of 4 retentions per team. RCB went with Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammad Siraj.

However, Virat Kohli will be not leading the side anymore. He has decided to step down as the skipper of RCB. RCB will also be missing the services of AB De Villiers who has announced his retirement.

A lot of young and experienced players have not been retained like Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal etc.

Here is a list of 5 players who can be picked by RCB in the mega auctions

1) Devdutt Padikkal

In the beginning it seemed pretty obvious that the 21-year-old cricketer will be one of the four players RCB will retain ahead of the mega auctions. But the Bangalore based franchise retained three players and Padikkal was not amongst them.

The Karnataka based left hand batsmen became the emerging player in the 2020 edition of IPL as he scored 473 runs in 15 games. However, the 21-year-old did not perform up to the expectations in the following season.

2) Harshal Patel

Even after receiving the orange cap in the 2021 season of IPL with 32 wickets, Harshal was not one of the players to be retained by the franchise. The 31-year-old equaled Dwayne Bravo’s record of most wickets by an individual in a season.

The Haryana based cricketer who debuted for RCB in 2012 has improved a lot in these years and has worked on his bowling specially in the death overs.

Harshal will be an important player for RCB and will be instrumental in adding the first IPL title in RCB’s cabinet.

3) Yuzvendra Chahal

The Haryana based leg spinner has been the leading wicket taker for RCB. Chahal has 139 wickets to his name in 113 games.

In the recently concluded IPL, Chahal picked up 18 wickets in 15 games at an average of 20.77. Chahal has stated in the past that he would like to play for RCB till his last season in the IPL.

4) David Warner

RCB are in search of a leader after Virat Kohli decided to step down as the captain of the team at the end of last season. The Australian left-hand opener David Warner has shown his leadership qualities in the past for the orange army. He has led SRH to their maiden IPL trophy in 2016.

However, in the second leg of the 2021 season of IPL Warner made it clear he will not be playing for the orange army anymore. SRH have not retained their star opener ahead of the mega auctions.

Warner can also open the innings along with Virat Kohli. Warner is the first overseas player to score 5000+ runs in the IPL. Therefore, Warner might be the perfect candidate for RCB.

5) Liam Livingstone

Probably the only player in the planet who could fit into AB De Villiers shoes currently is England’s over own Liam Livingstone. The 28-year-old Englishman is one of the most destructive batsmen in the world. He has a strike rate of 165+ in T20Is.

It will be a bidding war in the IPL auctions as all the teams would like to acquire the services of the young Englishman.
