IPL 2022: Top 5 Players Mumbai Indians can target in the Mega Auctions

Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions of the Indian Premier League, released their retention list on November 30. The franchise has retained four players which includes their skipper Rohit Sharma (16 crore), Jasprit Bumrah (12 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (8 crore) and Kieron Pollard (6 crore).

A lot of players have missed out from the list including the likes of Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Trent Boult and many more.

The Mumbai based franchise will be looking to fill in with a lot of different players in all the departments.

Here is a list of 5 players Mumbai Indians might target in the mega auctions:

1) Ishan Kishan

The young wicket-keeper batsmen is an aggressive batsmen who can score quick runs when needed. Ishan Kishan has shown such glimpses in the past the most recent being his 84-run innings off 32 balls which came against SRH in their last league encounter.

The five-time champions could only retain four players and therefore missed out on the 23-year-old. Ishan has proven his worth in the past for MI and the management would break the bank to acquire his services in the mega auctions.

2) Avesh Khan

Like any other team, MI should go all in for the 25-year-old. The Madhya Pradesh based cricketer was the second highest wicket taker last season. He scalped 24 wickets in 16 games in 2021 edition of IPL

His ability to bowl pin point Yorkers would help the team in the death overs.

3) Yuzvendra Chahal

The 31-year-old leg spinner is not one of the four players to be retained by RCB ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auctions. The Bangalore based franchise shocked the world when they released the likes of Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal is one of the most intelligent spinners in the league and MI would like to acquire his services having released their only spinning option Rahul Chahar.

Chahal has played for Mumbai in the past and even debuted for the team in the IPL way back in 2013.

4) Ben Stokes

Mumbai Indians have not picked all-rounders like Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Jimmy Neesham. Therefore, there’s a place left in the team where an all rounder like Ben Stokes will well fit in.

The Englishmen is one of the best all rounders in the world. Ben Stokes has the ability to bat at any given position. Stokes has a strike rate of as high as 136.84. Stokes is also an experienced death bowler and has bowled extraordinary spells for Rajasthan in the fast.

Therefore, Stokes would be a perfect fit in the MI team.

5) Jonny Bairstow

After letting go their star opener Quinton De Kock, the five-time champions are in a need of an explosive opener. Having debuted in the IPL in 2019, Bairstow scored 445 runs in that year in just 10 games at a strike rate of 157.24.

Bairstow is also a wicketkeeper and can therefore go behind the stumps when needed during the game. Currently, Mumbai Indians have not retained any wicketkeeper batsmen.
