Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are up and running for the upcoming season of IPL. The four-time winners of the tournament always believe in going out with the same squad and that is the main reason for their success in 14 editions of the tournament.
With the IPL 2022 mega auctions just around the corner, let us have a look at five players Chennai Super Kings might target in the auctions:
1) Shardul Thakur
Widely known as ‘Lord Shardul Thakur’, the fast bowler has played for the yellow army for the past couple of seasons. Shardul could be a sixth bowling option for the team who also provides some depth in the batting order. Many a times, Thakur has impressed with his pinch-hitting skills.
In the past CSK have used in the middle overs and the death overs which has often fetched some great results for the team. In 2021 edition of IPL, he picked up 21 wickets in 16 games at an average of 25.09. This was undoubtedly his best IPL season.
In the IPL, Shardul has picked up a total of 67 wickets in 61 games at an impressive average of 27.86.
The right-hand fast bowler has recently picked up seven wickets in the first innings of the Wanderers test against SA.
2) Kagiso Rabada
The South African speedster has been a vital cog in Delhi’s Capitals success in the past few years. The pacer guided DC to their maiden IPL final in 2020 but lost to MI. He received the orange cap in that season for picking up 30 wickets in 17 games.
Delhi Capitals have not named the South African speedster as one of their four retentions this season. They have retained the likes of Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje.
The 26-year-old will be every other’s team’s favourite if he enters the mega auctions.
3) Faf Du Plessis
Another former CSK player to make it to the list is South Africa’s very own Faf Du Plessis. The former Proteas skipper was the second highest run getter in the 2021 edition of IPL. He managed to score 633 runs from 16 games.
The opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf Du Plessis has done wonders in the past two seasons. Therefore, the yellow army would like to get the services of the 37-year-old yet again.
4) Sam Curran
A lot of Super Kings players were found missing from the retention list which was released recently. One such player is England’s young all-rounder Sam Curran.
Sam Curran impressed the skipper MS Dhoni in the 2020 edition of IPL. In the India leg of the tournament, he picked up 9 wickets in 9 games for the team.
The 23-year-old has a bright future and CSK would love to get the services of the Englishmen.
5) Kuldeep Yadav
Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav has served for KKR in the past couple of seasons. Yadav’s form dipped after the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup. For KKR, he has not been getting much game time as Varun Chakraborty has replaced the Uttar Pradesh based cricketer.
MS Dhoni was instrumental in Yadav’s international career as he gave him valuable insights from behind the stumps while playing for team India.
The spinner has played a total of 14 matches in the 2019 and 2020 edition of IPL where he just managed to pick up 5 wickets.
CSK might consider Kuldeep Yadav only on the basis that MS Dhoni’s assistance might bring the best out of the 27-year-old.
