IPL 2022: 5 players with exceptional performances in Vijay Hazare Trophy who could earn big money deals in the mega-auction
The Vijay Hazare trophy is less popularly known as the Ranji One-day trophy. It is a 50-overs domestic tournament including Ranji Teams from across the nation. In simpler terms, it is the One day format of the ever famous Ranji Trophy.
It started in the year 2002-03 but shot to fame only recently ever since the T20 boom in India and the rise of the Indian Premier League. Vijay Hazare Trophy is the only limited overs tournament that is played right before IPL every season and thus serves as a perfect scouting opportunity for the different IPL franchises.
Basically, they list down the players they can target in the auction by monitoring their performance in the Vijay Hazare trophy. The tournament has thus transformed into sort of a selection stage for the players to pave their way to their dream IPL franchises.
In this article, we are listing down 5 such players who impressed everyone with their performance in Vijay Hazare 2021 and can thus earn big IPL deals in the upcoming mega-auction.
- Rishi Dhawan
The Himachal Pradesh captain led his team to victory almost single handedly this year. In Vijay Hazare 2021, Rishi Dhawan proved his all-rounder skills which was something unknown to the masses till date. He was second on both the lists of Most runs scored and Most wickets taken which is an insanely good statistic for any all-rounder.
Rishi picked up 17 wickets in 8 matches and also scored 458 runs. He was earlier a part of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Mumbai Indians during the initial stages of his career but without much success in IPL. He now has a golden opportunity to bag a big deal in the mega-auction.
- Yash Thakur
Vidarbha medium pacer Yash Thakur was the only player to have more wickets in Vijay Hazare trophy 2021 than Rishi Dhawan and was rightfully crowned the highest wicket taker in the tournament. He picked up 18 wickets in just 7 matches. The 22-year old Kolkata born was brilliant in big matches and might win him an IPL deal this season as he is both young and talented.
- Yuzvendra Chahal
RCB pretty much shocked everyone when they decided not to retain Yuzvendra Chahal ahead of IPL 2022. The leg spinner has been one of the core members of the RCB squad in the last few years and leaving him out of the retention list is disheartening for the fans.
However, this proves that Yuzi Chahal will have to prove his mettle in the domestic tournaments which he very well did. Yuzvendra Chahal ranked sixth on the list of Highest wicket takers with 14 wickets in just 5 matches ! He is slowly getting back in form and will definitely be a tempting candidate in the mega auction.
- Washington Sundar
Just like Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar was also released by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2022. He was heading into the match coming back from injury and thus not much was expected of him. However, the all rounder managed to do incredibly well.
Washington Sundar picked up 16 wickets in 8 matches and also had a half century to his name.
- KS Bharat
Royal Challengers Bangalore has let go of some of the gems that they possessed and KS Bharat is one of them. He was pretty underrated last season as he did not have much role to play in their batting order. However, he proved his worth in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The wicket-keeper ranked 10th on the list of highest run scorers in the tournament with 370 runs in 5 matches. He was exceptional behind the wickets as well any team in need of a wicket-keeper can go for him in the mega auction.
