Left-handed batsmen Chris Gayle is regarded as one of the most destructive players to have every played the game.

Christopher Henry Gayle was born on September 21st, 1979 in Kingston, Jamaica. Gayle started his cricketing career with Lucas Cricket Club in Jamaica. Gayle played his first ODI match for West Indies way back in 1999. Just six months later he debuted in the red ball format. Initially Gayle did not open the innings for his nation but he soon went on to do that. 

Gayle shocked the world with his explosive batting skills in the inaugural season of the ICC T20 World Cup. As expected, Gayle would be signed for a huge amount in the auctions of the IPL

In 2008, KKR acquired the services of the Jamaican cricketer for a whooping bid of INR 800k USD. Gayle received massive criticism when he extended his stay in the IPL and landed at Lords a day before he was supposed to lead his side in a test match. 

In 2011, he made a comeback in the IPL by joining RCB. He played his first match against his previous team at their home stadium. Gayle scored 102 runs off 55 deliveries which comprised of 10 fours and 7 sixes. He scored another ton against KXIP in the same year. In a game against Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Gayle smashed 37 runs in an over 3 sixes and 3 fours and a no ball which was hit for a massive six. He finished the season by receiving an orange cup as he scored 608 runs in 12 games. Gayle played a vital role in that season for RCB. He also received the player of the tournament award in that particular season. 

In the following season, Gayle retained the orange cap as he scored 733 runs in 14 games. He also achieved the record of the highest individual score in T20 format. 

Soon after that the world started calling him the ‘Universe Boss’. 

During the 2017 edition of IPL in the game against Gujrat Lions, Gayle 10,000 runs milestone in T20 cricket. 

But Gayle was not performing to his best. Therefore, he was dropped by RCB. He was picked up in the auctions by KXIP in the 2018 IPL auctions. 

Gayle was retained by the franchise in the 2021 edition of IPL. But he left the tournament during the 2nd leg citing ‘bio-bubble fatigue’.

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, Chris Gayle was born in 1979 which makes him 42 years old currently. He is on the verge of retirement and the 2022 IPL might be his last season in the tournament.

As of 2022, Chris Gayle has a net worth of about INR 258 crore. He earns about INR 36 crore annually. In the 2021 edition of IPL, Chris Gayle was paid around INR 2 crore. But Gayle has not been retained by KXIP for the upcoming seasons. It remains to be seen if Chris Gayle is picked by either of the two new franchises else, he will enter the mega auctions.
