3 Players that Lucknow franchise will draft ahead of the Mega auctions

The RPSG Group led by Sanjiv Goenka bought the franchise for a whopping price of INR 7090 crore. Sanjiv Goenka was previously the owner of Rising Pune Supergiants. RPS and GL replaced CSK and RR for two seasons (2016 and 2017). The franchise is set to submit a list of maximum three players by January 30, 2022.

The franchise has already appointed former Zimbabwe player Andy Flower as their head coach with Gautam Gambhir as their mentor.

Here is a list of three players who are linked with the Lucknow franchise:

1) KL Rahul

Rahul has been linked with the franchise ever since the eight original teams were supposed to submit their retention list by November 30, 2021. Rahul asked Punjab Kings to release him from the squad as he saw no future with them. Since then, the 29 year old Indian cricketer is the frontrunner to join the franchise.

The Karnataka based opener has been in top notch form ever since he joined KXIP in 2018. Since then he has scored 600+ runs in every season. In 2020, he received the orange cap. Rahul managed to score 670 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of 129.34. He scored a ton and five half centuries.

2) Kagiso Rabada

The 26 year old South African speedster is next on Lucknow’s radar. Surprisingly, Rabada was released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the auctions. Rabada was a little off in the UAE leg of the IPL last season as he only managed to scalp 15 wickets in total.

The Proteas pacer won the purple cap in 2020 as he picked up 30 wickets in 17 games at an economy of 8.34. His best figures were 4/24. Rabada is known for bowling pin point yorkers at a quick pace and can solve the problem of death overs for any team.

Rabada is the perfect candidate for Lucknow as it would strengthen their bowling unit.

3) Marcus Stoinis

The Australian all rounder played an important role in Australia’s title winning ICC T20 World Cup season in 2021 along with Mitchell Marsh. Stoinis is a rare breed of cricketer who can bat at any place in the playing XI. Stoinis can bowl anywhere in the innings and is also a wonderful fielder.

Stoinis had a remarkable 2020 season of IPL where he scored 350+ runs with the bat and also scalped 13 wickets in 17 games for Delhi and took them to the finals of the tournament but were defeated by Mumbai Indians.
Stoinis might be the perfect fit for Lucknow after being released by Delhi in 2021.
